The BR Class 09 is a shunting locomotive formerly used by British Railway. These locomotives have now been retired with 10 of the locomotives being preserved. Locomotive D4107 is featured in Train Sim World's West Somerset Railway route as a preserved locomotive. Whilst D4107 is the only advertised Class 09 in the WSR dlc, all 10 preserved examples of the locomotive are featured in BR Green livery.

Produced between 1959 and 1962, the BR Class 09 was used in service on the Southern Region of British Rail primarily on shunting duties, however they were occasionally used as stand-in locos for passenger services. Some locos such as D4107 were originally allocated outside of the Southern Region. D4107 was originally allocated to Carlisle's Upperby and Kingmoor yards before being reallocated to Hither Green in London in 1968 before moving again to Ashford a year later.

The Class 09 was not designed for long passenger services such as those on heritage railways including the West Somerset Railway. As the West Somerset Railway has steep gradients in areas, the Class 09 struggles to reach maximum speed in certain parts of the route, achieving only 15 mph on the steepest sections.
